Antique Victorian opal ring in gold. This ring is a petite charmer with a claw-set, 4mm opal at center. The band is about 5.5mm at front, or 1/4" north to south, tapering to about 2mm at back or 1/16". It is marked for Birmingham with a small k in an oval lozenge, so if I'm figuring this correctly, it dates to 1884-1885. It is inscribed with the owner's initials, VEK. The gold content is not marked, but my testing shows that it is 12- 14k gold.
As for color, the opal is aqua with pretty subtle flashes of pink and green. Please see the last picture, which doesn't drain the color intensity as much as the others.
The condition is very good with no chips or scratches to the stone and a little thinning of the band.
