Antique early Victorian hand necklace with carved red coral, enameling, a garnet, and seed pearls, in 14K gold. Utterly exquisite in design and execution, this delicate necklace is an extraordinary find.
The central pendant is a carved red coral hand; the graceful fingers wrap around a circular gold element that is decorated with leaves and black enamel. This, in turn, features a six-pointed star, trimmed with black enamel and adorned with six white seed pearls and a center rose pink garnet. With its bar passing through the hand, the circle swings freely. The entire pendant with bail is 1-3/8" by 5/8" at widest.
The chain is composed of tiny interlocking links and twelve red coral beads measuring 2mm. The chain alone is 18".
Unmarked, the gold has been tested as 14K, and the necklace weighs 5g. The condition is excellent.
