Art Deco necklace with three chalcedony stones, elaborate marcasites, and onyx accents marked Sterling, Germany. This necklace is superbly designed and executed, and is a very fine example of this genre. I would date it to 1925- 1930.
The centerpiece consists of three faceted chalcedony stones, two blue and one lavender-grey, framed by heavily patterned marcasites in sterling silver; slender onyx stones add definition, color, and texture. A fancy beaded link chain is punctuated with two bell-like stations studded with tiny marcasites. The sturdy clasp is star-shaped with a chalcedony center stone and additional marcasites.
The front portion is curved, 3/4" wide, and measures 5" with a 1-1/2" drop. The chain adds 11", so the wearable length is 16" clasped. On most women, this will fit close to the neck.
