Antique Victorian snake pin in paste and silver. This delightful serpent features a sparkling green paste head, red cabochon eyes, and a coiled body of bright clear pastes. The lowered head and entwined, curling tail add extra drama to the snake's form. While it may be worn as a brooch or pin, there is a ring at the tip of the snake's mouth for adding a small watch, pendant, or dangling bead. It measures 2-1/4" by 3/4" and has a c-clasp closure. Marked Sterling Silver and 935 on the reverse, it has a higher silver content than sterling. As for the pastes, their color seems to depend very much on ambient lighting. They range from clear to slightly yellow, and one is grayish. You may wear it as is or choose to replace a stone or two; I wouldn't bother.
