Antique vesta case with French silver hallmarks for use as a pendant. When vesta cases were popular between the 1890s and 1920s, short matches were called vestas, and the cases provided a place for storing and striking them. This particular vesta is a beauty, with raised designs on the front and back depicting graceful flowers, stems, scrolls, a medallion, a bow, and a cartouche. The outer case tests as sterling. The inside and striker may be a different metal. As a pendant it looks gorgeous, full of texture and shine. It measures 1-5/8” tall by 1-1/4” at widest. The French marks are on the inside rim.
