Art Deco sitting Buddha brooch in luminous amethyst with brilliant clear pastes and smooth black stones. Finely carved with angular strokes, the Buddha sits cross- legged in abundant robes. He is framed with beautiful sparkling pastes; the topmost stone suggests a higher connection with the heavens, illumination above the crown of the head. He sits on a throne of four square black stones and two longer baguettes that are either black onyx (agate) or glass.
The brooch is marked 935, a higher grade of silver than sterling, and to me it looks French in origin.
The condition is excellent, with all-original brilliant pastes, none dark or yellowed or chipped. One of the Buddha’s ears is nicked; it almost appears to be part of the carving and is quite unnoticeable without magnification. The old c-clasp is secure.
The brooch measures 1-1/16th” tall and 3/4” wide.
This is a gorgeous little piece.
