There’s an awful lot to love about this little powder puff in its glass lidded box.
First of all, the puff itself is nice and clean, with a cream handle, blue fabric top section and wool puff.
Then there is the little box which has straw work around the sides of the base and the lid, and a clear glass top so that the contents can be seen easily.
When the box is turned over, a label on its base is revealed, identifying it as having come from Lloyd’s Oriental Café Ltd, Bristol. This chain of fashionable cafes was established in 1895, changing its name to the Cadena Cafés Ltd in 1907. (It no longer exists but was still around in the 1960s as I remember going to the Oxford branch with my mother when I was very young!)
The box has a diameter of 1 ¾ inches and it is ½ an inch high. The powder puff is 1 ½ inches wide.
Condition: the straw work has lost a couple of pieces but otherwise the box and powder puff are in really lovely antique condition.
