I have to confess that I am a little bit in love with this gorgeous evening bag.
Worked in petit point, on the front and back it features a bowl of flowers against a pale background, with a dark blue border into which further flowers have been stitched.
The sides are stitched with 14 stylised flowers in different colours, with the owner’s name. G. Walton-Brown, and the year – 1934 – stitched on the underside.
The gilt metal frame has embellishments that resemble lapis lazuli and jade, as well as enamel flowers and a motif that resembles a musical note.
The clasp, which is set with two jade-like beads, opens to reveal a clean, virtually pristine interior with side pocket.
There is no indication that this superb item has ever been used. It would accessorise beautifully with a dark blue evening gown or cocktail dress. Alternatively, it is beautiful enough to display on its own as a work of art.
Measures 7 ½ inches at its widest point and about 8 ¼ inches long. Chain handle is 15 inches.
Condition is excellent.
