There is something very honest and appealing about this charming handcrafted spillikins game.

Measuring a little more than 5 ¼ inches long, the box has a sliding lid which comes off to reveal 22 well executed bone spillikins sticks.

Many of the sticks are recognisable shapes such as swords, spears, saws etc, and some have numbers inked onto their tips.

The best sticks are the long-handled billhook which is entirely coloured red, and the yellow parrot which has an inked value of 30.

The sticks are in good condition, as is the box. The maker was clearly proud of his creation as he wrote his name on it twice, once on the back of the lid and again on the back of the box itself. The name is a little difficult to read but it could be ‘Galoise’; however, the date – July 1866 - is entirely legible.

Condition: while there is evidence of usage, the condition of the sticks and the box is good.
