In lovely condition, this stamped card needle case dates from the mid-19th century and would have been purchased as a souvenir of a trip to Switzerland.
The front features a charming colour print of a young woman dressed in the style of a Swiss maid, with the caption ‘Geneva’ beneath the print.
The reverse features a colourful print of a young woman wearing distinctive Swiss folk costume, with the caption ‘Appenzell’ underneath it.
The book is bound with pale pink ribbon and the same ribbon is used for the ties.
Inside there are two flannel pages for storing needles. The presence of a few small holes in the flannel is evidence that the book has been used at some point in its life.
Measures 3 ½ inches long and 2 ¼ inches wide.
In lovely condition – the stamped card is without tears and the ribbon hasn’t perished as often happens with similar items.
A very sweet addition to any collection of sewing antiques.
