Dating from the early decades of the 20th century, this splendid doll has a smooth composition/papier mache face with well-executed facial features. His hands with their extra long fingers are also composition or papier mache, while his body and legs are wood.
He wears an orange silk robe which is richly embroidered on the front from mid-chest to just above the bottom hem. The sleeves and back also feature embroidery. Beneath the robe he wears colourful print trousers.
On his head he wears an elaborate headdress which is fixed to his head, and his feet wear non-removable red slippers.
There is a Chinese character mark on the back of his neck.
He is articulated at the arms and legs.
In good antique condition with some facial smudges and other slight signs of wear.
