This is a beautiful little strand of sterling silver beads which is made up of sterling silver caps that have been beautifully finished with amber and black colored glass beads inside them. The amber beads poke out of the silver and catch the light. The necklace measures 16” caps with amber beads inside of each cap, the beads themselves measure 6x9 mms. It has a very nice heavy clasp that looks good and works well. It is fully hall marked JMS which is Jose Marmolejo’s mark, TM-65, Taxco and Sterling. Jose was a maestro silversmith that ran his own taller in which he trained and employed other silversmiths to sell to stores in the United States and Tane which was a high end silver company known for their quality. He actually trained one of the owners of Tane. Jose’s biography is on page 253 of the book Mexican Silver 20th Century Handwrought Jewelry and Metalwork. Because I am a jeweler I like jewelry that’s well made by a good jeweler that proudly hallmarks the piece. It is more comfortable to wear because all the edges are polished and it’s much more collectible.
