This magnificent pin/pendant is part of a parure by the Los Castillo taller in Taxco. (I am selling it separately from the other pieces because this piece has been partially polished.) If you are a collector of Mexican jewelry you know that his taller was one of the important ones of its time. Don Antonio Castillo worked for Spratling before starting his own business. He was married to Margot de Taxco and his brother, Jorge (Chato), invented the process used in this pendant. He learned how to combine several metals and stone to create works of art in metal and stone. This design reminds me of Picasso paintings. This particular design won a prize in 1955.
This pin can also be worn as a pendant. It measures 1 5/8 inches x 1 5/8 inches. It has been partially polished. You can see that there are some dark spots on the metal and I think they will probably polish away. It comes on a chain which measures 27 1/2 inches long. The chain is probably not original because it has hallmarks, not the taller marks. The pendant is fully marked and truly a work of art.
