Native American Design Tobacco Felt Rug Early 1900sNative American Design Tobacco Felt Rug Early 1900s

Vibrant Native American design tobacco felt rug has a peace pipe motif and is finished in light green, blue, dark red, off white and black on a dark red background. It measures 8 1/2" x 5 3/4". Made in the early 1900s, it is in very good condition with one stain on the peace pipe motif.

Tobacco flannels or felts were give-aways in packages of tobacco and cigarettes at the turn of the century. Popular designs for these felts were baseball players, flags from various countries, popular colleges and universities and dollhouse rugs. Many of the larger size rugs or flannels featured Native American designs. These rugs could be used in country style dollhouses and rustic cabins.
