Antique French Brittany storage chest has decorative carving covering the entire surface that mimics the life size antique Breton folk art furniture from Brittany, France. Made of chestnut, it is finished in a dark brown stain.
The top, front and back each have a circular cutout that looks like a ship's wheel with turned spindles inside. Carved petals surround the wheel. The sides are decorated with impressed daisies. It has a hinged lid for storing blankets or keepsakes.
An impressed maker's mark on the bottom reads, 'Fabrication Francaise'.
Made in the late 1800s to early 1900s either as a salesman sample or as doll furniture, it measures 4" t x 7" w x 4 1/2" d and is in excellent condition.
