Antique French Brittany blanket chest has decorative carving covering the entire surface that mimics the life size antique Breton folk art furniture from Brittany, France. Made of chestnut, it is finished in a dark brown stain.
The top has turned spindles inside three circle cutouts that look like ship's wheels – a nod to this sea faring peninsula. Carved petals surround the wheels. The top and sides are decorated with incised flowers and geometric designs. It has a hinged lid for storing blankets or keepsakes.
Made in the late 1800s to early 1900s either as a salesman sample or as doll furniture, it measures 3 1/8" t x 12 1/2" w x 4 1/2" d and is in very good condition with a small split on the side of the right front leg.
We are showing it with a Brittany box bed – also called a lit clos sold separately. Buy both for $395
10" doll is used for display purposes only and is not for sale.
