Soft metal antique dollhouse Fairy Furniture was made by Adrian Cooke Metallic Works from Chicago, Ill. in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
Made from an alloy of aluminum and white metal (what we refer to as soft metal), the set consists of an arm chair and a rocking chair. The matching decorative tall backs feature upside down horseshoes decorated with leaves and a bow in the peak. Some people believed that horseshoes with the two ends pointing up would collect good luck. Others thought the ends should point downwards (as these horseshoes do) so luck would pour onto those who sat in the seats.
The cushions have gold velvet upholstery and cardboard backing with stamped letters (not legible) but most likely Pat. Aug. 13, 95. The chair fronts have an interesting metal tassel trim.
Made in a large 1" scale, the arm chair measures 3 5/8" t x 2 1/4" w x 2 1/2" d. The rocking chair is 3 1/2" t x 2 1/4" w x 3 1/4" d. Seat height for both is approx. 1 1/2" tall. Both are in excellent condition.
