Soft metal antique dollhouse Fairy Furniture was made by Adrian Cooke Metallic Works from Chicago, Ill. in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
Made from an alloy of aluminum and white metal (what we refer to as soft metal), the set consists of a settee, two arm chairs and a rocking chair. The matching decorative tall backs feature upside down horseshoes. Some people believed that horseshoes with the two ends pointing up would collect good luck. Others thought the ends should point downwards (as these horseshoes do) so luck would pour onto those who sat in the seats.
Originally, silk ribbon was threaded in and out through the horseshoes, but is missing from this set. In general, it is very hard to find pieces with the ribbon intact.
The plump antique gold seat cushions have the original attached printed cardboard labels on the bottoms.
Made in a large 1" scale, the settee measures 3 1/2" t x 4 3/4" w x 2 1/2" d. The arm chairs are 3 1/2" t x 2 1/4" w x 2 1/2" d and the rocking chair is 3 1/2" t x 2 1/4" w x 3 1/2" d. Seat height on all pieces is 1 1/2" tall. The set is in very nice condition with the only issue being some missing tabs on the bottom of the settee.
