11" Spanish Flamenco Dancer Layna Souvenir Doll - Cloth and Wire 1950s - 1960s
This beautiful 11" Spanish flamenco dancer souvenir doll was made by Layna in Barcelona, Spain. Her posable body is made of cloth over a wire armature with a molded torso and a head that is movable. Her thick black mohair wig is gathered in a braided ponytail and wound around her head. Her hair is accented with a bow. She has an expressively painted face.
Her lively costume consists of a cream cotton peasant blouse with large lace edged embroidered ruffle and a red floral gathered skirt. A long starched lace-edged muslim slip adds volume. Her matching floral fabric shoes have black felt bows and red heels.
She is 11" tall and is in very good condition with some soiling on her blouse and missing castanets in her hands.
Dolls such as these are known by various names - international dolls, folk dolls, tourist dolls, travel dolls, ethnic dolls and foreign costume dolls to name a few and were made by various manufactures such as Layna, Roldan, Klumpe and Nistis.
