11" Layna Doll - Spanish Flamenco Dancer - Cloth and Wire Tourist Doll 1950s - 1960s
11" Layna doll is dressed as a Spanish flamenco dancer. Made in Barcelona, Spain, her posable body is made of cloth over a wire armature with a molded cloth head that is movable. Her thick black mohair wig is gathered in a ponytail and is accented with a pretty flower. Large green circle earings accentuate her expressively painted face.
Her lively costume consists of an off white fringed shawl that covers her hourglass figure and a red floral multi-tiered, flounced skirt with sweeping train. A long muslim slip with ruffled edge adds volume. Her matching floral fabric shoes have black felt bows and red heels. She is holding castanets with long red and blue tassels.
She is 11" tall and is in very good condition with some wear to the fabric on one of her ankles and a stain just above it.
Dolls such as these are known by various names - international dolls, folk dolls, tourist dolls, travel dolls, ethnic dolls and foreign costume dolls to name a few and were made by various manufactures such as Layna, Roldan, Klumpe and Nistis.
