Description: Original and authenticated original William Henry Jackson watercolor painting on board of Independence Rock on the Oregon Trail in Wyoming. Jackson was a photographer of the West, best known for images of Yellowstone and areas that led to the creation of the National Parks. This is based on a photograph that Jackson made at Independence Rock on the Oregon Trail in Wyoming. Born in upstate New York in 1843, Jackson lived in New York City at the end of his long life. Dated 1941, he would have been 98 or 99 when he made this painting.
The authenticity of the work (based on a photo) has been confirmed by Robert Manasek, Resource Management Specialist at the Scott's Bluff National Monument in Nebraska where a sizeable collection of Jackson photographs and paintings is now archived.
Items is loose and inframed and stored in cardboard. Measures 10 1/2 X 14 3/4 inches. Nice colors. Corners with slight damage. Signed and dated lower left. Please contact us with any questions.
