Offered for your consideration is this beautiful set of salt and pepper shakers made by Red Wing Pottery in the Town and Country pattern, made between 1946 & 1954. One shaker, the pepper, is chartreuse in color, the other rust color is the salt.
Eva Zeisel’s Town and Country biomorphic salt and pepper shakers are sometimes referred to as Shmoos, since they share a similar shape and appearance to the fictional cartoon creature created by cartoonist Al Capp. The Shmoo first appeared in Li'l Abner around 1948. Licensed Shmoo merchandise became the craze in the late 40's / early 50's.
