Offered for your collecting pleasures...a covered butter dish by Franciscan in the Duet pattern which features a stylized rose gracefully arching. Condition is very good, both lid and base are clean and damage-free. See our listings for other pieces.
History: In 1954, Franciscan China introduced the Eclipse shape, designed by George James, which was neither round nor square. Through a clever combination of parabolic lines and optical illusions, the almost circular plates had a thickness to the edge changing the diameter to create an elliptical appearance. In 1956, the Duet pattern featuring a pair of crossed pink roses was introduced and was in production until 1961.
