This incredibly well-executed 10" x 14" painting of a sailboat at sea dates to 1920-30's and was done by E.C. Clark; a listed artist who was known for his harbor and landscape paintings. He painted in Gloucester for a period of time in his earlier years. This painting is in all original, as found, unframed with no repairs or touch-ups of any kind. It is completely original...someone penciled on the back: "Off to Bermuda" and the name of their boat... the "Sea Lure." It is signed E.C. Clark in the lower left hand corner (Eliot Candee Clark, 1883-1980) who was originally born in New York. The painting could use a cleaning if so desired. The edges show wear commensurate with age. We photographed it in a shadowy corner and against a black background in natural light for different views. Would look impressive framed but equally lovely as is. This painting is easy to live with...soft yet confident strokes and tones.
