This elaborate book features a silk covered exterior that features exquisite floral illustrations and a cross with a blue ribbon design banner that reads, "It Was the Silent and Calm Night" across the cover. The interior consists of about 22 pages edged in gold and of those 14 have beautiful black and white depictions of the highest quality engravings/illustrations. The book is called, "It Was the Calm and Silent Night" A Christmas Hymn by Alfred Scott. It was published in Boston.in 1883/ The illustrations are attributed to W.L Taylor, "Drawn and Engraved under the supervision of George T. Andrew." This remarkable piece is in excellent condition for it's age considering the fragility of such examples. The binding (outer) shows some silk "melting" (please see photos) and there are a few minor stains but overall this is in fantastic shape with no odors. Someone clearly treasured this piece. It measures about 8" x 6.25" excluding the silk fringe. What a wonderful Christmas and religious collectible.
