The dolls come in a presentation box. They depict the scene from the painting in the Baltimore Museum of Art. In 1761 John Hesselius painted this picture of Charles Calvert. Son of Benedict Swingate Calvert. The artist leaves no doubt about the social position of young Charles age 5 by including a body servant holding his master's drum. I was told about 1900 a unknown artist hand carved these dolls I was told they were wooden but they could be part composition, to depict the painting. The dolls are wonderful and the clothing are authentic has a little wear. The case is 8" deep,161/4" wide x 161/4" tall. The boy Charles is about131/2" tall, the servant is 10" tall They are attached to the base. The paint on the base has some wear. One of a kind.
