We present a Georgian period water-colour portrait of a charming young woman in her Sunday best.
The diaphanous quality of of her lace cap and scarf have been executed skillfully enough that it might have been done by a professional portraitist rather than a skilled amateur.
The blue of her high-waisted dress has not faded out and stands in attractive contract to the cafe au lait colour of the paper background.
She retains her early 19th century black lacquered papier mache frame. The oval brass surround, along with the grape and leaf hanger have darkened to the colour of bronze. If you wish they could be polished back to their original brightness.
The papier mache is in good antique condition with a small crease in the bottom right hand corner and very minor swelling around the edges.
