This stunning gold cross studded with turquoise is typical of the 1830s and demonstrates the beautiful workmanship of the time. The intricate filigree and cannetille work is rendered in solid 15-carat gold, which we have had confirmed by x-ray testing.
The six natural turquoise cabochons (each 5mm diameter) are bright and blue and well matched. The bottom stone is a little paler but they otherwise show no sign of the green hue so often seen in old turquoise jewellery which has been in contact with skin over time.
The piece secures with a handmade lever clasp as a brooch or can be worn as a pendant.
The front is in excellent antique condition. There are areas of old solder on the back; the piece is solid.
Size: 5 x 4cm.
