Ametrine is a fascinating gemstone, a naturally occurring type of quartz which is a mixture of purple amethyst and yellow citrine. It is also known as bolivianite (almost all ametrine comes from Bolivia) or trystine.
This is a string of 26 amazing old emerald-cut ametrine stones which have been restrung onto a necklace of low-grade silver beads with a sterling silver clasp (marked 925). Each gem has been drilled with two holes, one across the top and one across the bottom.
Two of the stones have major chips across the bottom, the others are in good antique condition showing just age-related wear, mostly around the holes. Despite the damage the necklace looks pretty amazing as it is but could be remade into a truly stunning piece. Although ametrine can now be produced in a laboratory you'd be hard pressed to find so many gorgeous old natural stones at this price!
Length: approx 19 inches. The ametrines vary in size but average around 1.5 x 1.7cm.
