A very nice example of a Victorian swivel brooch in pinchbeck - the central oval section is reversible so either portrait can be worn facing front.
In very good antique condition, there is very little wear to the golden surface and the swivel mechanism turns smoothly and easily. Fixes with a good strong pin and C clasp.
One side contains a beautiful romantic hand-tinted picture of a woman with a rose, the other a man in uniform - these appear to date from slightly later, possibly around the time of the first world war (though I'm no costume expert!). The side with the man's photograph is covered with glass, the lady's side with acetate.
Size: 5 x 4.8cm (not including the pin).
The piece could conceivably be converted to a pendant without much difficulty if the pin is removed; there is already a small loop at the top which likely originally linked to a safety chain.
