A beautiful example of high Art Nouveau, this fine brooch in rolled rose gold features sinuous arabesques in a whiplash design reminiscent of the work of Alphonse Mucha or Hector Guimard.
Marked SD with a cross symbol on the reverse.
In good antique condition, with no apparent wear to the gold front; one prong is missing at the back and there are surface scratches where the prongs have scraped against the back plate.
Secures with a C clasp; the pin sits loosely within the clasp but is perfectly secure when pinned.
The piece came to us with the photograph of a handsome mustachioed fellow and when we opened it, revealed four more ovals of photographic paper underneath, two with photos of a woman and two blank or faded, see pictures. You can easily substitute your own small photo. Note there is no glass.
Size: 3cm tall x 3.2cm wide.
Weight: approx 3.5g.
