A sterling silver gilt repoussé brooch featuring the well known romantic image “Love’s Dream” - a cherub kissing a naked sleeping woman - depicting the ancient story of Cupid and Psyche edged with foliate and scrolling detail. Decorated with three dangling filigree pieces which date from a later period.
Hallmarked to the front with the lion passant denoting sterling silver and the date letter C (which we believe most likely to be 1898 London, although there is no assay office mark so it’s hard to be sure). The gilt is a little rubbed in places, commensurate with the age of the piece.
The two dangling urns are marked TOPAZIO 2A on the bottom; Topazio is a renowned Portuguese company which from the mid 1930s specialised in silver filigree work.
Measures 5 x 3.9cm (7cm including the dangles). Weight: 17.8g. Secured with a working C clasp.
