A lovely early small miniature mounted in an 800 silver, Rococo-style scrollwork frame. Hallmarked for 1827.
A delightful brooch or simply an interesting addition to any miniature collection. It looks as though it may have been gilded at one time, if you look closely there are traces of a rose gold colour in the crevices.
The portrait of a lady is pretty and well executed; we've not attempted to remove or clean the painting or check for a signature as it's pretty well set in there and, certainly for older pieces, we prefer to leave them as we find them.
Hallmarked across the pin, though the marks are a little hard to decipher; there are two capital As, each in a square cartouche. There is also the maker's mark F&S in a rectangular cartouche, which could be Fattorini & Sons who worked in England from the late 19th century. The working C clasp is hallmarked 800 on the side.
Size 3.3 x 3.3cm. Weight approx 12g.
