This is a lovely vintage pendant and brooch by Sarah Coventry of Canada. The brooch/pendant features a large glass, faux opal cabochon with purple, pink and peridot green rhinestones in a Victorian style brooch of shield and crown. The faux opal made with foiled glass was made to look like a fiery opal with the colours gold, orange, pink, green. The brooch/pendant dates to the 1970s. The piece is signed CANADA and COVENTRY on the back for Sarah Coventry. The piece was called “Contessa” and was originally part of a set with earrings and a bracelet.
Measures 3.25 from top to bottom by 1.75 inches at the widest point across. The faux opal cabochon measures 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch. The fold over clasp is secure when worn as a brooch and there is a hook which could be attached to a heavy chain to wear the piece as an impressive pendant. The metal of the brooch/pendant has an antique finish to make the brooch look like an antique. Excellent condition and all stones are present and colourful.
Made for someone who enjoys the look of jewelry fit for a countess. A lovely example of the beauty of Sarah Coventry jewelry.
