This is a beautiful beaded 1920's purse or "swag bag". The honey golden yellow beads make this crocheted purse a beauty. The bag is in excellent condition on the outside with no missing beads. The purse measures 5 by 7 inches. The gold tone frame is nicely detailed and has a 12 inch link chain handle. The lining is yellow satin. There is one tiny spot on the silk, the ribbon that rims the frame is folded over and loose in one corner and the liner could use a stitch or two near the frame, but not major issues. Often the liners in these bags are torn or missing or frayed. I showed my purse collection to a Fashion Historian, Ivan Sayers, years ago, and he taught me something interesting about these beaded purses. If you see one bead that is a different colour than the rest of the bag, it was done on purpose to indicate the maker of the purse when they were sold in department stores. This purse has one green bead (see if you can find it). So, when this purse was sold, the store would know which lady to pay because each purse maker had their own signature bead colour. Isn't that interesting! Thank you, Ivan, for teaching me that. This is a lovely example of a beautiful 1920's purse!
