Finely made, sterling silver choker that resembles a snake with tiny, individual, overlapping "scales". Very unusual hidden clasp, as shown in the photos. This piece is from the Italian design firm, UNOAERRE. According to the firm's web site: "On April 2nd 1934 the founding fathers of the company, Carlo Zucchi and Leopoldo Gori, received the first registered trademark of the gold industry: 1AR. This trademark became the name of the company: UNOAERRE (1AR - first in the town of Arezzo)."
I contacted the company for more information about this piece and received the following reply: "We used to produce this design, mainly in brass, but also in silver. We stopped production because that type of chain was giving us some production problems. It is no longer available."
The piece is marked inside the clasp as follows: "*1 AR, 925, UNOAERRE."
The necklace measures 17 inches long and is in excellent condition. An exquisitely made piece that is no longer in production.
