Beautiful, cobalt blue glazed, porcelain covered jar from the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. Features a highly detailed rendering of the Coty Cosmetics Building on the front and back. Inscribed: "New York Worlds Fair 1939". Also marked on the bottom: "JAPAN".
Erected by the Fair Corporation and situated at the Long Island Plaza, this building resembled a container for the products of the vast cosmetic industry which were displayed in the numerous exhibits within its walls. Motion pictures, pageants and cosmetic shows daily filled the magnificent auditorium to capacity. The "Magic Fountain" surrounded by an arcade of famed perfumes - Coty "Air Spun" Face Powder in the making - the Beauty Theatre - the Laboratory Museum - all heralded the World of Beauty of Tomorrow. Built by ARCHITECTS-Cross & Cross-John Hironimus.
The jar measures 8 3/8 inches tall. Excellent condition. I consider this a rare piece since I am a fan of NYWF memorabilia and I have never seen another one like it.
