An outstanding set of six very rare antique American coin silver table or soup spoons in a fancy beaded pattern. retailed by J W Tucker, San Francisco, c. 1860, The front of the handle has a faint script monogram of 'JS'. They measure 7.5" (19cm) and weigh approximately 1.4 oz (43g) apiece. Total weight is 258g.
These spoons are all in excellent condition commensurate with their passage through time. The beading is still crisp and there are no dents or imperfections to the bowls of the spoons. I fear that my photos do not do them justice!
All spoons are identical in appearance but five of them are stamped J W Tucker - San Francisco, Ca and one spoon has a simple mark which is worn but seems to be 'W & H' with the shape of a heart embossed before the initials. This may indicate that this was made by Wood & Hughes of New York but retailed by JW Tucker. Please see the photos of the marks.
These scarce spoons are classically elegant in both appearance and 'feel' and come from the estate of an old San Francisco family.
