This charming original Steiff Micki Miniature (31/2") Hedgehog 'girl' is dressed in traditional alpine clothing and carries a pick ax and a tinkling bell which is enameled on one side with flowers. This presentation of the beloved and highly collectible Steiff hedgehogs is quite rare.
Her arms and legs are hard plastic and her head softer vinyl. Clothing is felt and cotton and in clean vintage condition with the odd thread here and there, which is normal for these Steiff characters. Her 'hair' still sticks up (quite fashionable these days!). She wears red cotton socks and black shoes and stands well, particularly with the aid of the pick ax, if properly placed. Her arms and legs are wired so that they can be positioned. Her body is solidly stuffed.
This figure is in perfect vintage condition with no damage to her face, body or clothing. Sadly she does not have her tags but family provenance assures that she was purchased in Europe in the mid 1960's. Her pointed rather than straight hairline indicates that she was made after 1952. Identifying her exactly has been difficult as I saw only one other figure of her type among all the Steiff figures on the market, which had very little concrete information given about it. I actually wonder if she might be a version of the Mecki and Micki 'cousins' Alpo and Alpa. If that is the case, she is very rare as they were only made in 1964 but she quite resembles the few 'cousins' I have seen.
