Lovely set of eight old sterling teaspoons made by the Hopewell Silver Co, which was a division of Reed and Barton. They are monogrammed with 'M' - Pattern Majestic c. 1894 Designed by Austin F. Jackson
This pattern, issued in 1894, is beautiful and rarely seen. The shape and detail are exceptional and are a wonderful example of the superior work done by Reed and Barton and their subsidiary companies during this period. The mark on these spoons is similar to the old Reed and Barton mark, but the 'R' is not in the typical shield. This mark was registered by Reed and Barton for Hopewell Silver Co on July 29th 1890 and used until Hopewell was closed in 1913. The Hopewell mark makes these spoons quite unique and so many thanks to the very kind Ruby Lane Shop owner who helped so much with finally identifying this mysterious mark!
Six of these spoons are in absolute perfect condition commensurate with age. Two spoons have been expertly repaired where the 'bowl' joins the handle but it is hardly noticeable (please see the last photo) and the repair is solid in both cases. Pricing of the set has taken these two repairs into account.
They measure 5 3/4 inches and weigh approximately .91ozt Total weight: 227g
