A very fine Limoges small flat cup and saucer made and decorated by Haviland & Co, France during the late 19th to the early 20th Century. The 'flat' shape of the cup makes this piece most charming and quite different. The hand painted design of this set is still immaculate and depicts intricately painted groups of 'stylized' flowers of pale pink, apple green and turquoise with pink stems. There is a very 'nouveau feel to this design, which is brightly accented with plenty of gold around the cup, the handle and the slightly scalloped saucer, with an additional very fine line of gold around the inner rim of the cup (last photo). There is no wear or fading to any of the gold. Around the bottom of the cup there is a raised 'embossed' design on the porcelain of an intricate panel of tiny scallops which adds an interesting texture to the presentation of the cup.
The cup measure 3 1/8" across and is 1 3/4" high. The saucer is 5" across and 3/4" high. Back stamp marks are the green Haviland - France underglaze for the maker and the red underglaze Haviland & Co - Limoges for the decorator, which puts the age of this duo to between about 1889 and 1930.
Other than a 'starburst' stress crack radiating from the centre of the saucer (can be just seen in photo #7), which does not show at all when the cup is in place, the set is in pristine condition with no other issues. The pricing takes into account this small defect.
This set is a lovely example of this period of fine translucent Limoges china and would make special addition to any collection. I am also offering another cup in this same shape with a similarly beautiful and quite modern design which is also worth consideration as they look very pretty together.
