A very fine Limoges small flat cup and saucer made and decorated by Haviland & Co, France during the late 19th to the early 20th Century. The hand painted design of this set is still immaculate and depicts intricately presented chrysanthemum type flowers in shades of pea green and taupe surrounded by swirling green and pale pink foliage with gilt accents around the rim of the scalloped saucer, the cup and the handle. The design looks quite unique for this type of china as it has a true 'nouveau' feel to it.
The cup measures 3 1/8"" across and is 1 1/2" high. The saucer is nearly 4 1/2" across and 3/4" high. Back stamp marks are the green Haviland - France underglaze for the maker and the red underglaze Haviland & Co - Limoges for the decorator, which puts the age of this duo to between about 1889 and 1930.
There is sadly a small chip on the the top edge of the saucer (about 4-5 mm wide), which can be seen in photos #5 and 6 and a short stress line crack on the bottom of the saucer. Obviously this damage would not show if the set was used for display and so I decided that the charm of this little duo outweighed the slight damage and was worth offering it as is. Other than those two issues, the set is in pristine condition with only very slight gold wear on the inside rim of the cup.
This set is a lovely example of this period of fine translucent Limoges china and would make special addition to any collection. I am also offering another cup in this same shape with a similarly beautiful and quite modern design, which is in perfect condition, as they look very pretty together.
