This hand painted porcelain beaker or cup is beautifully done with a wide, scalloped celeste blue and lightly raised gold band at the top, in the 'Sevres Style'. Small pink rosebuds and leaves, which are all slightly different and hand done, are spaced around the rest of the cup, as well as one of these in the bottom of the cup - a nice touch to enjoy when the tea is done! The handle is extremely special in a dramatic twisted/swirling design and generously decorated with gold - very elegant and different.

This piece is in absolutely pristine condition, with no loss to the gilding and no other issues. It measures 3 1/2" high and 3 1/4" across the top of the cup.

I believe that the classic Minton twisted handle confirms this piece to be early Minton as the handle is such a unique and special design specific to that famous maker. This ties in with the piece's provenance as well as with the record that Thomas Minton's son Herbert introduced the Sevres style 'celeste blue and gold' to Minton pieces in 1836 after succeeding his father. As is the case with many early pieces of Minton, it is unmarked, other than three impressed marks on the base which are quite difficult to make out. These are:
A tiny circle (1/8" across) in the center of the base
If using the handle as 12 o'clock:
There is a second mark at about 1 o'clock which is 2 straight lines side by side - both are approximately 3/16" long and 3/16" apart
Between 3 and 4 o'clock there is a 3rd impressed mark which if faint but appears to be like an elongated oval shape with an open end (sort of like a paperclip which has been cut in half). One side is longer than the other. The mark is about 3/8" long and about 3/16" across at the opening.

This is a wonderful decorative piece and a lovely collector's item.
