This stunning pair of matching antique Mason's Patent Ironstone China plates are exquisitely decorated in the popular 'Japan' style. Produced in the early 19th C, they still offer tremendous depth and striking color and gilding. In shades of midnight blue and hues of brick and pale coral, they depict a lavish floral arrangement in a vase in the center surrounded by more florals and charming dove medallions. The gilding is heavy, unworn and sparkling. Their rims are gently fluted.
The Mason's mark (on both plates) was used between 1820 - 1830. They are in absolutely perfect condition with no crazes, cracks, chips or repairs and almost no wear whatsoever to the gilding. There are some very small areas where the brick colored glaze has been rubbed slightly. One of the plates has a few tiny 'kiln spots' on the back and another has been artfully hidden on the front, which can just be seen in the next to last photo - left hand side of inner rim. However none of these tiny flaws detract from their beauty or impact but I like to mention them. They measure 9 inches in diameter.
These highly decorative plates look simply wonderful on a mantle, in a cabinet or on the wall. Real treasures ...
