'A little piece of old Irish lace - 100 years old' was written on the envelope in which I found this wonderful piece and was signed from G Bedford Dec 1988, when it was given to my Mother. So this would make this a little Victorian treasure. It is exquisitely done with an intricate border and middle surrounding a fine piece of old Irish linen or cotton batiste.
The diameter of this is 8" across in total and the small linen inner circle measures 3 1/8" across.
The outer edge of the lace portion of this doily measures approximately 20" in circumference and 10" around the center, where the lace meets the linen/cotton.
This would suggest that if it was not used as a small doily that it could be made into a wonderful collar for a special antique doll of similar age and quality.
Two stitches have been lost near the center join with the linen which could obviously be repaired. There are also a couple of places where a thread has been lost. Other than that it is perfect antique condition with no staining or other issues. It has been gently washed.
The detail on this quality piece is glorious!
