Glorious sparkling micro beaded large sized reticule 'gathered' bag or purse from the late 19th C with a drawstring closure in simply perfect condition. The body of the bag and the generous 2 1/4" scalloped tassel fringe is done in a mix of faceted steel cut beads in bronze and silver, which are artfully scattered through the pattern to add maximum sparkle - and opaque glass beads in silver, black and gold. The same pattern is on both sides, which is reminiscent of a 'fleur de lys' motif.
All beads are 1mm or less in size - there are about 576 beads per square inch - which makes this bag typical of the amazing creations which were done in this period, many of which took up to a year to produce.
This is quite a large bag for its type and measures 7 1/4" wide x 10 3/8" in length including tassels. Weight 325g.
Unlined interior. Extremely good antique condition with no loss to beads, to the tassels or any other issues whatsoever. It feels remarkably sturdy and is so well made that it feels as if it could go on for at least another 100 years. What a special fashion accessory or wonderful piece to add to a collection of these exquisite bags.
