This sterling vesta case or match safe is excitingly different due to the addition of glimmering applied flowers and leaves in yellow and red gold in the middle of its elegantly and deeply swirled repousse borders. The stems of the flowers are etched which make for further interest. The shape of it is lovely and it sits nicely in the hand. It is certainly one up from the average and is an interesting collector's piece of fine old silver which has a beautiful patina. It snaps shut very securely. For some reason photographing this piece to show up the gold applique was difficult but please do ask for more photos.
It has obviously had quite a life and has been well used, as seen by various small dents and micro scratching on the back but this rather adds to its charm. In general it is in very good condition for its age. The indented area for striking a match is not over worn.
Marked Sterling with a maker's mark which I cannot identify but is a B within a narrow triangle - this mark is faint but can be seen in one of the photos when magnified.
This measures 2 3/8" long x 1 1/2" wide x 3/8" deep. Weight is 19g. A wonderful little piece!
