This very fine ImHof Swiss 8 Day brass gilt desk clock is a truly handsome piece in excellent vintage condition and will tell the time in all 24 time zones around the world and in 24 specific cities. This circular clock made of brushed and polished brass gilt sits on an inclined brushed gilt base. It looks simply wonderful on a desk both as an ornament and a unique timepiece. The face is an outer silvered rotating ring for the 24 hours with applied gilt brass baton roman numerals, inner rotating gilt and blue world planisphere divided into the 24 zones and gilt dauphine hands.
This timepiece in absolutely wonderful, nearly mint condition for its age and is in perfect working order. A professional clock dealer would rate the overall condition of this clock as AAA as there are no spots of oxidation to the rim or the base.
This is a very fine, rare example of the worldtime clocks which were very popular in the mid 1900's and which still offers a uniquely elegant design and stylish impact.
It measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter and is 1 3/4 inches high at its highest point. It weighs a substantial 20 ounces.
The movement is rhodium plated, 15 jewels, straight line lever escarpment, monometallic balance, self compensating flat balance spring. Dial marked 'ImHof Swiss/US Patent' and the back is signed with G1850 initial A, #1363102 and 71589. The glass is in excellent condition with no visible scratches or cracks.
