The costume on this wonderful vintage 'souvenir' doll is very special. It is not only beautifully detailed and immaculately made but the quality of the fabrics and of course the elaborate lace head dress supported on a wire frame 'crowns' this elegant doll who is attired in a traditional costume of the Cherbourg region of France. She was made by Le Minor and was purchased around 1960. She stands at 13" to the top of her head dress.
Her perfectly molded face is expertly painted with sparkling blue eyes, her light brown hair neatly coiffed and in pristine shape. The hands, legs and face are celluloid. She wears a lacy blouse covered with a silky shawl which is draped to below the back of her waist and trimmed with wonderful black fringe. Her sleeves are the same fabulous silk striped fabric as her billowing skirt in vibrant shades of blue, turquoise and red on black, which is truly stunning. This is finished with a generous red silk 'apron' decorated with some lovely brocade braid which has been nicely detailed with a further surround of fine, narrow gold and red braid to add luster. Matching brocade braid also decorates the head dress. The full skirt is lined with a crisp tulle to hold it in shape and is further supported by a stiff tulle slip finished with two rows of lace. The dainty black shoes are painted on. She still has her original 'hang tag' for a Le Minor creation and is known as 'Freya' from Cherbourg.
Freya really is an outstanding vintage example of a top quality and very elegant international doll of this time in immaculate condition.
