This actually is an utterly charming antique French invalid or infant feeder in the very rarely seen shape of a duck. However, this piece would also make a a charming addition to service pieces for melted butter or vinaigrette dressing. The design is particularly attractive as the wings fan out over the back of the duck, in crisp white porcelain and the shape is somehow very pleasing. The detail to the duck's eye and head is particularly good, as are the feathers on the sides.
Perfect condition other than a few kiln marks and a tiny bit of wear to the top of the handle commensurate with age and use. Measures 7 1/2" long and 2 1/2" high.
Made by Vieillard et Cie ~ Bordeaux in the mid 1800's. Marked as such.
